SAE Detroit Section Technical Scholarship

Overview
Two scholarships of $20,000 each are available for children or grandchildren of SAE Detroit Section members. Created in 2001, this award aims to encourage eligible students to pursue careers in engineering or science to help address an anticipated shortage of qualified graduates. Application deadline: April 30.
Eligibility
- U.S. citizen.
- Must be the child or grandchild of an active SAE Detroit Section member (member must have paid SAE Detroit dues for at least one year at the time of application).
- High school graduating senior.
- Minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Financial need will be taken into account.
- Must enroll full-time in a two‑year or four‑year engineering or science program at an ABET‑accredited college or university.
How to apply
- After January 6, begin the application through the “Click here to apply” link on this page.
- Register and create a user ID to access the online application.
- If you meet the basic eligibility, you will be prompted to proceed and upload the required documents:
- Official high school transcript.
- FAFSA output cover page showing the Student Aid Index (SAI).
- At least one letter of recommendation from an adult who is not a family member (for example, a teacher, coach, pastor, etc.).
- Complete every section of the application. Verify all information and submit; applications cannot be modified after submission.
- Applicants may be contacted by the Scholarship Committee for a brief interview.
Selection and notification
The SAE Detroit Section Scholarship Committee will choose two recipients. Awardees will be notified by the end of June.
Award payment
Each $20,000 scholarship will be deposited into the recipient’s school account by August. Funds may be applied to tuition or other school‑related expenses.
